We developed of psychological assessments of emotional intelligence (EI). EI is the intelligence to perceive, recognize and control one's own and others' emotions.

There are two types of EI assessments: self-reported questionnaires and performance-based tests. We focused on the ability to control emotions and examined the relationships between EI assessed using self-reported scales, and the ability to control emotions assessed using two performance-based tests: a) face-word stroop task and b) color and emotional stroop task (selective attention tasks).

Seventy-six Japanese undergraduate and graduate students participated in this study.

The results of this study showed that the performance-based and self-reported scales were not related to one another.
